Research Glamour editorials

Today I have research editorials from Glamour magazine to see what atmosphere I want to have for my advertising photos.  I am still considering if I want my photos in black and white or colour.

With these editorials I mainly looked at the colours and atmosphere of these photos.

I like the way they presented the watch. I think it is creative, original and outstanding.  This would be a great idea to use for my images with the accessories.

This image caught my eye because it reminds me of the 90s. Her hair, the car and the men looking at her. She looks confident, strong and appealing. I think this is a nice idea to do as a final photo when I present the dress together with the accessories. I just have to be careful that she doesn't appear to be some piece of meat or object, this can give the wrong impression I have to say that looking at men makes her more confident. That she knows she looks good and can be seen. Maybe I can use both men and woman walking on street and looking at her to make it more
However, I have to do more styling for the models and it would be too much work to do so I still need to consider this.

This image makes me happy because of the woman smile. You can see she is happy and has fun. The accessories are clearly visible and the background matches well. The car and the warm colors of a building reminds me of the 90's.  I like this photo the best and would like to use it in my own final photo. similar background with any car and where the model is having fun.

I find this image strong and powerful because of her look. The way she holds the back is nice, however you cannot see the bag very well, so I would decided to hold the bag differently. I like the warm/beige background which makes her outfit stand out.  This would be a great idea for my final image, only adding more accessories.

I also watched images in black and white because I wanted to use this for my own photos. But after seeing this picture, I tend more towards color. I think this photo is very beautiful and powerful but if I want to show my accessories and 'sell' this, it will be difficult because it is in black and white and you cannot see the details properly.

I also saw this website through my research and this editorial was mainly focused on accessories which was really helpful for my own project.  I mainly looked at how the accessories are presented.

I like how the shoe is presented in an unusual way.  You are immediately drawn to it because you don't see it that often. The warm / yellow background makes the shoe stand out more. I only would. I would just take the picture from further off so you can see the whole shoe.

This photo belongs to the same editorial as above. I just don't think this photo is very good. This is because they used a white background which makes it look more boring and because there are a lot of shoes in it, there is too much distraction. What I do like about the photo is that they played with the light and shadows.

Even though I don't want to use weights in my photo, I still think the accessories are clearly visible. They stand out and the focus remains on the accessories. The background is not completely white which makes it less boring to look at.

I am really happy I have done researched in different editorials. By looking at different photos I got a better idea of what I want to do with my own photos. I could see what certain exposure poses can do to a photo. I decided I want to have my photos in color with warm / neutral backgrounds. I notice that I tend when something is presented in an unnatural way, I am more attracted to it. I do have to be careful that it is not presented too strange because people still have to see what an accessory looks like.

  1. These images are good examples of how important LOCATION is to a shoot - I think it is almost as important as the accessories themselves. You are selling a lifestyle and your location or context of your images should reflect that. would be good to see you following up with this - a combination of photographs, research into what each location signifies and even some hand drawn sketches of the environments or props you are thinking of including. Well done.
