Final sketch adjusted

A few days ago I received the fabric I ordered online. When I saw the fabric it reminded me of a top I have in my closet I bought in Ibiza. I wasn't completely happy with my previous last sketch of the dress because I found it too simple. This top below is a necklace with a square shape. See the picture below.

So I thought maybe I can use more fabric so it become a dress but you can see the hole on the second picture. This way you can make the top more sexy but I think it will be too sexy for a dress. Yesterday I went to my friend to fit the top and to see how much longer the dress needs to be. We changed the necklace in pearls but I noticed that the top didn't look good on the model because she has broad shoulders and anything that are tight to the neck made it vulgar. So this is not what I wanted to convey to, then I started to think what different shapes could I make of the top because it is a square. I played around and I found one shape which made me really happy. See image below.

I probably use a pearl necklace on the waist but I have to see it when the model is wearing the dress if it looks great. I am going to use an asymmetrical design so you will have a longer piece on the left where the sleeve is and on the front under the dress right it will be longer. I measured yesterday to add 40 cm at the bottom so that it becomes a dress. I'm still going to stick with this and once I've made the shape I will put it back on the mannequin and cut of diagonally and make a seam in it. This is because I think it's better if the dress is too long so I can adjust it than the other way around. It is a completely different design but made with the same shape. This is also easier for me to make and it has my own twist in it.

I am glad that I started testing with the form, so that it gave me other ideas. Because of this, I added my own twist to the dress. I like this design much more than I showed in my previous post. This is much less simple, yet timeless.  I reinvented the top in a dress.  Now I am really happy with my final design. I think the little black dress is reinvented in a creative way. Not too many extravagant shapes but the dress remains timeless and simple. I like this design more because I've added my own twist to it. I feel I am prepared, ready and have thought carefully how to make the dress that I can start now.  Wish me luck :)

  2. Really good and good development of what you are doing. It is as important to develop your idea in a practical sense as in creating 2D ideas of your work. Well done. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
