Welcome back
The last period of my school year has arrived, the holidays are over and it is time to start again.
For art portfolio, I designed previous term 4 designs with the theme purple haze with a branding and marketing strategy. I found this very exciting in the beginning because I had never done anything like this before. When I look at the end result, I am very satisfied with how I made this, especially with my branding and marketing strategy. There is still a lot of room for improvement and still a lot to learn, but I will take this feedback and information into my new project for this term.
This term I would like to develop my drawing skills, learning new software and artist research.
When developing my project, there were too much ideas stuck in my head and I did not had an overview anymore. If I made a sketch from every idea I had, I showed an even clearer process of my designs, and I also got a better overview of what I exactly wanted to make. That is why I want to take this into account during this period and work out my ideas immediately, and thereby further develop my drawing skills.
First I have not tried any new software on my last project. This was the intention, but in the end I noticed that the software that I already knew was more useful than the new software. That's why I want to try out more software this period.
For my first project I could include more research into my major project. For my last project I got lost in my research and therefore I run out of time in the end. I hope for this project I will find a balance and to make a timetable and stick to it as well as possible. What helped me a lot with my previous project is to look at other artists who were not directly related to my project. This allowed me to gain inspiration in landscapes and architecture. This led to new insights and ideas.
Last term our final lesson was a lecture about David Bowie. In this lecture we did not got into detail why he was such a great inspiration for fashion. Therefore I have done research about Bowie in my break.
He was an inspiration for many fashion designers. He dared within fashion, exploring his boundaries and made a huge impact in the pop culture. For my last project I sketched 4 designs of clothes. This was my first time and that's why I played it safe with safe colors and shapes. But Bowie has proven that nothing is impossible when it comes to shapes and colors, and many of his designs can still be seen today. The way he saw fashion not as a style but as fashion made his style different. He reinvented himself every decade, like a chameleon, which made me realize it was time to reinvent myself. Trying out different styles that were bolder, brighter, wider and bigger. I liked it more than I thought and I renewed my wardrobe.

Thoughtful post, particularly interested in what you said about using different software for this terms project. When we come to the Sign Off/Project plan we can focus on you using this, how it will improve and develop the work you are intending to make and also create a timetable together that will help you to create this terms project with clarity and purpose.
ReplyDeleteLike your research on Bowie, remember that he was very good at re-inventing himself both stylistically and musically (particularly in the late 1980's and 90's - turning to Alt Rock, Drum and Bass etc). Depending on which project them you choose, this could be something you use as a jumping off point.
