Research Katie Grand
Today I have research stylist Katie Grand. I have gathered more information about her, because I want to talk about her in my student talk lesson for next week. It was also very interesting to read because it is related to my progression route.
Katie Grand (born April 1971) is a British stylist and fashion journalist Named by the The Daily Telegraph one of world’s most powerful stylists (Vogue, 2011).
Her obsession with fashion started when she was 12 and her father brought her different magazines. When she was 17, she wrote a letter to Liz Tilberis, she was the editor of Vogue. She asked how she could become a fashion editor. Tilberis advised her to go to Saint Martins in Birmingham, so she did. In this period she became close friends with Stella McCartney and Giles Decon. Even though she was student of the year, she did not like the course and dropped out when she met a photographer Rankin. She started to help him and she became a fashion editor for the magazine Dazed & Confused. She was happy for 7 years but when she got an offer from the Italian leather goods house Bottega Veneta was a breaking point for her career (The Guardian, 2008).
In 1999 she started to work for the Face as a fashion director. and they promised her that she could start her own magazine one day. She launched POP in 2000 were she worked for nine years (The Guardian, 2008).
She left POP in 2008 to launch a new magazine, LOVE, with Conde Nast. However, Grand announced in september 2020 she would be exiting the magazine after 12 years. In march 2021 she launched her new magazine, Perfect. She mentioned that "it is not just another magazine. This idea is it's much more of a content agency, creating content for brands on screen, on paper, in an exhibition, or a party. It could be anything, or everything I’ve ever done coming together" (Katie Grand, 2020).
She has received a number of industry accolades and was nominated for the Isabelle Blow Award for the Fashion Creator and the Innovator of the year award. (BOF, nd) She also worked with many famous magazines such as Vogue, Visionaire and Harper's Bazaar. She worked for many brands such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Gucci. She styled celebrities like Madonna, Scarlet Johansson and Drew Barrymore (BOF, nd).

You have identified some really important aspects here that could have a big influence on your work this term. Perfect is a good choice and I look forward to hearing your talk on Katie Grand, particularly if you choose to focus on the Marc Jacobs editorial - think about how you could use this approach in your project - you could think about a photoshoot where the poses are deliberately unconventional or outside of what you would normally consider, as well as the location that sums up your project idea (within the boundaries of what you have access to).
