Lecture: Francisco Goya

Last week I had a lecture about artist Francisco Goya was famous for his modern art. I never heard of him so this lecture was interesting. You could clearly see that when he became ill his paintings changed along with it. . His series of 14 paintings from his farmhouse of Madrid "Black Paintings" have stayed with me the most. These images contain fear, war, evil and despair. It made me think of a sad reality, it was creepy and unpleasant to watch these images, however I think this is the sad reality. We always want to see beautiful things and look on the bright side of life. But sometimes we need to face reality and I think thats what Goya did.

You can see in this painting, in terms of light and shade, without outline or detail and with a minimum of colour,  there are many details and expressions.

So, how can I use this information for my project? I found this quite difficult. Although I thought it was interesting, I personally did not enjoy much. Through his black paintings I could see what feeling it gives and the use of black and few colors makes it look sad and evil more quickly. So I have to takes this into account when making my own photos in black and white.
