Ice breaker ideas

For art portfolio I have to create a self portrait in 3D.  Before I started developing ideas for this project, I started thinking about what materials I had available.  I didn't have much, so I had to be creative with cardboard, plastic, paper, thread and iron wire. My previous self portrait of Blake Lively in 3D that I had made for 2d and 3d media design, unfortunately did not resemble her. This made me think carefully about how I can make it look like me this time. I have in mind to print out a photo of me and use it in a creative way so that it becomes 3D design.  This resulted in 2 ideas.

First idea:
For this idea I want to use paint, cardboard, and a picture of me.

As a background I want to use a square cardboard and paint it black. This will make my photo stand out more. I want to paste vertically rectangles on this from cardboard, maybe in different heights and lengths to create depth. I want to cut my photo into strips so that it fits on the rectangles. I want to paint the cardboard where the strips come on in the same colour as the picture, so that it flows nicely. I will use soft colours same as in my photo and for the background I will use the colour black. See below my quick  sketch.

Second idea:
For this idea I want to use cardboard, thread and a picture of me. I want to attach parts of my face of the photo to wire that is attached to the cardboard.
See below my quick sketch.  I've drawn my mouth straight now, but maybe I'll hang it crooked and with the rest of my face too. The colour palette I will use are red, black, skin tone and brown.

  1. Good ideas here, Jolan, like the sketches too - did you consider colour as part of your initial ideas for this task?
