Considering my work in the real world

In today's lesson we had to critically think about our work and how this would affect the real world.  The main question is which message I want to say through my project.

What influence could my project have in the real world?
Fashion as a life style.
Fast fashion encourages us to keep buying new things, which is bad for the environment. Through embracing our past and reinventing a piece or style it differently, we can breathe new life into old clothes.
Using accessories will show that only with a small detail a clothing piece can look completely different.

Will your project show a point of view or show something that might make people think differently?
I hope that they will think deeper and more critically about whether they really need that new piece of clothing. I also hope that people become more aware that with a small change or addition, a piece of clothing can be a lot of fun to re-use.

How else does your work have influence?
Inspiring my work by the 90s, I want to say that's when it's gone it doesn't necessarily have to be gone.

Why is it important?
We should be grateful for what we have and not always want to have the latest stuff. Creating an environment were we can look fabulous but in the mean time have a better influence on the world.

  1. The last question - don't you think what you are doing is more important than that? You mention fast fashion in the first point, and whilst you are right that we should 'have a better influence on the world' how can you make that message clear through your project and designs? This might only be one project with us, but this is an attitude you can take onto your undergraduate and into your industry.
