Lecture: David Bowie
Last Thursday we had a lecture about David Bowie. We first looked at his influence and later we looked at the artwork.
Beyond his role as a musician, he also explored other forms of artistic expression, including drawing, sculpting, and writing. Most of his paintings were recognized as expressionism. In this lecture I could see he was more than just a great songwriter and musician. He put his heart and soul into everything he did. He explored his boundaries and showed that you could be anything you want. He encouraged people to be themselves even if they were different, that is the direction you should go, even if it is not easy.
Even though I am not into his music I found his mindset very interesting. I have not seen many musicians who did more than writing. I think he was an inspiration for many to do what you like and follow your dreams.
We did not get into much detail why he was a fashion icon so I did a little research about this subject. Within fashion he wanted to shock people with his clothing. Well known for his costumes, he was an inspiration for many fashion designers. Especially with the man-dress. I found it inspiring that he dared, he had nothing to fear and marked the fashion industry.
