Research fashion illustrators

It is time to sketch my designs and prepare myself for this as well as possible. Therefore, I did research in fashion illustrators. There are 2 accounts that I follow on instagram that have inspired me.

The first one is Illustrator Girls. On this page they collect all fashion illustrations of different people

The second one is Fashion Illustration School

In the first image I mainly paid attention to how she draws the models and uses the colors in her designs.
I also took a good look at the shadows and how they make details in clothes to give it more shape. I also watched how she uses watercolor in her designs. this gives me a better idea of how to apply watercolor

In the second image, videos are also shared on this page. It explains how to use the colors, how to make skin tone and which materials are nice to use. I decided to work with ink pen, paint and watercolor. The designs will be in color but I will not color the arms, face and legs. This way my design comes out much more.

I really like this drawing from the collar because of the shape, the use of color and the highlights. You can see there are many details in processed.

What I find interesting about this drawing is how she shaped the clothes by means of different colors or green.

By taking a deeper look at the drawings I got a better idea of how I will develop my designs. I also know how to use color to give more shape to the clothes and how to do this with watercolor. If I don't remember, I will look back at these pages. I will still be making experiments with colors and test designs, but now I can get started

I have also researched Blair Breitenstein.

Her obsession for fashion drawings started when she saw a lookbook from her grandma who worked for a clothing company.  She studied communication and advertising but it the mean time she started to post her drawings on Tumblr. It was never her intention to profit from her drawings but many people showed interest and she continued. When she worked with la Renta her career a new world opened up for her. She traveled to Europe for two seasons of fashion week with Mac cosmetics and here she designed packaging for the cosmetic brand. She also worked with Chanel, Prada, Sak's Fifth Avenue and major magazines. Most of her inspiration comes from high fashion and instagram. You can describe her style as spontaneous, fun, abstract and playful. The materials she used are watercolors, markers and pastels. This is because they dry quickly and are easy to use.

When she is inspired she draw quickly and improvise which makes the drawing much more interesting to look at.  Sometimes a drawing will take her ten minutes with little mistakes but that does not make the drawing any less of a piece of artwork. She embraced the flaws in her drawings.

I looked at which techniques she used for her drawings. She mainly worked in water color which I also want to use in my designs.

I think her drawings are a bit exaggerated but in a funny way. They are imperfect yet beautiful. On the last picture the sketches looks really simple but on the other hand it is fashionable and stylish. How she has used the color black subtly but still has a clear picture of the clothes and hats.

I find this way of drawing very interesting but not suitable for my project. I want to be taken seriously by my target group and I think through this style that this will be less likely to happen. I do want to consider drawing my drawings not too precisely like the skirt in the first image.
