Collaborative piece - Kim & Jolan

For homework I have to make a collaborative piece together with Kim. We decided to use a quote as the subject. We decided to make a design from this quote. Kim designed the bottom and I designed the top. We worked out both ideas that first came to our mind when seeing this quote. We both have a different style and you can see how different our designs are even though we thought the same with the quote.

The quote we used is:  "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." -Eleanor Roosevelt

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was an American politician, diplomat, and activist. As the wife of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, she was the longest-serving first lady in the United States

What does the quote mean to me: I also think the quote suits me personally. If you really want something then you should go for it. That you should always strive for more and it is important to develop yourself if you want to grow.

The first thoughts that came to my mind when seeing the quote were: The bigger, the better, ambitious, enthusiastic, vision, students, passion.

The ideas that came up were: Exuberant, orange, extraordinary, wings, cape, red. Therefore I have used the colours red and orange. I have used wings to make it more extraordinary and exuberant. Below is my design for the top of the body.

Reflection:

This task allowed me to practice my drawing skills as well as expiration with colour. This was useful because I also have to make designs for my set project. I like the outcome of my design.  I think the wings are a nice addition and I have processed them in a creative way. Only afterwards I had drawn the main lines with inkt pen and this did not work so well because it was already painted. 

I really like the outcome of our design. I would never thought the outcome would be like this but I like it. I also like the small details such as the moon and star attached to the belt. This reinforces the quote in our design.

Kim had already seen my design and she adapted her design to this so that it became a whole. What would have been even more fun if we didn't see our designs until we put them together then we probably would have had a little more difference
