Research class exercise

Today we had an exercise about research using questions we received from our teacher Ms. Zoe. Through this exercise I gained more insight into what my research should entail and where you should pay attention for.

Name something you have researched in the past for art, design or media

Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld

Explain how you researched this?

I have looked at various internet resources. The two websites I chose contained the most useful information. This information contained trends and style of the clothes and this suited best for my project.

What facts did you discover?

- Karl Otto Lagerfeld was born in 1933 and died in 2019.

- He was a German creative director, fashion designer, artist and photographer.

- Creative director of the french house Chanel.

- Creative director of the Italian fur and leather goods house Fendi.

- He entered the fashion industry after winning a design contest in 1954.

- In 1962, he became one of the first fashion designers to work freelance

- He often shopped in flea markets and reinvented old designs.

- Bringing Chanel back from the dead and completely rebranding it in the 1980s was one of his notable achievements

What new conclusions did you establish?

I learned through research what the history of Karl was. How he got into the fashion world and how he managed to work himself up. He designed for young and old. He had that gift to really appeal to any age.

Research into my major project

My major project will be a fashion photoshoot and an editorial based on the winter trends of 2020. Therefore I will research two websites such as The big bazaar and The trendspotter because these contain the wintertrends of 2020. I will also look at the way the articles are written.

Research through my major project

I will be researching and testing Flipsnack to create my own editorial.

I also do a photoshoot so therefore I will experiment with PIXLR to edit my pictures.

For the makeup I will use golden leaves. Because I have never used this I will watch a tutorial from Beautybymsjesse on how to apply this on the face. I wil also research makeup artist Pat Mcgrath.

Recently I already experimented with Flipsnack. I was satisfied with this software and I will use this for my project.

Research for my major project

For this area I will research fashion photographers to gain more insight into how photos are taken. I will look with more dept at the light, background, clothing style, make up, poses and the story behind the photograph. The fashion photographers I will research are David Bailey and Jurgen teller.
