Research advertisement

To know what is important in an advertisement, I looked at examples that were showed on Blackboard.
If you are going to make an ad you should pay attention to:
  • The design and layout
  • The text and image
  •  Tagline
  • Logo
  • The message
  • Methods of getting your attention
  • Target audience. 
I tried to pay attention to this when looking at examples so that I knew if I understood the ad and what it wanted to achieve. I decided to chose for an awareness campaign. therefore I search on internet for similar advertisements. 


This advertisement is from the organization Mothers Demands Action. This is a movement of Americans fighting for public security measures that can protect people from gun violence. They are passing tougher gun laws and working to close loopholes that endanger the safety of their families. The organization draws attention mainly trough the use of school children in their advertisement. Seeing a little girl holding an assault weapon in her hands would quickly catch the attention of parents as it is an extremely disturbing sight to behold. A parent wants to make sure this never happens. Parents do not want their child to have a deadly weapon. This advertisement is focused and appeals to the hearts of parents and carers who want their children to be safe. Also the sad face on the look of the children worries the audience. This emotion appeal is further supported by the settings and the visual effects. The two children are placed in the center of the ad and remain central. The background is darkened so that all the attention automatically goes to the two children and they are also illuminated by a bright light.

This ad immediately appealed to me because it is powerful. In America it is forbidden to sell kinder surprise to children because it contains toys and therefore it is prohibited for child safety. However weapons may still be sold.  The tagline is a question and you are going to think about the ad and in my case my answer was that I chose the girl with a gun in het hands but the correct answer was just the opposite which shocked me. Because of this I think this is a strong advertisement.







This advertisement was produced by two Portuguese organizations that are very well known in the animal's rights community, called the Portuguese League for Animals Rights (LPDA) and Accao Animal. With this new campaign the organizations wanted to educate people about the abuse of animals behind circuses and encourage them to support animal-free circuses. The first impressions of the in the circus with a lack of freedom and good care. The people first see animals with clown make-up in a dark room behind the bars of a cage. The darkness from the cage creates a dark atmosphere around animals who are looking sad. The objects that attract the viewer's attention first.  This part of the advertisement is extremely effective because it shows the performance of the circus from the perspective of an animal: the abuse, the lack of freedom and the maltreatment that takes place backstage, away from the eyes of the public. It also explains the horrors of animal cruelty that occur in circuses.

I also find this ad powerful. The tagline exactly matches the image making it very clear what it is about. It shows animals are not gloating and have not chosen for this. The smink on the monkey's face emphasizes the tagline. Through bars they show that the monkey is in prison. You do not have to think about this advertisement and you know exactly what it is about which I think it makes the ad powerful and straightforward.
